The UK's Allocation Round 8 Contracts for Difference auction will run to the last of five possible timelines, the government confirmed on October 15, 2026, per reNEWS reporting.
Ministers decided against an expedited schedule citing a number of considerations, including maximizing competition and ensuring value for money for consumers, and giving participants sufficient time to prepare bids, according to a statement on the AR8 microsite.
The National Energy System Operator is due to publish a notice on November 19 confirming the timings of the sealed bid window. Under the government's indicative schedule, the window could run from December 3 to December 9, with results announced in mid-February.
A separate notice on November 19 will set out the initial budget for each technology pot. "AR8 will be focussed on value to consumers, while also delivering on our clean power commitments," the government statement said.
The Contracts for Difference scheme is Britain's main mechanism for supporting low-carbon generation, using two-sided contracts that give developers long-term revenue certainty while shielding consumers from fossil price swings. The December dates remain indicative until NESO's formal notice.
