T&E projects sevenfold growth in sub-€25,000 electric car sales versus 2024
Transport & Environment reports 1.64 million EU battery-electric car sales in January-August 2026 and projects sevenfold growth in sub-€25,000 models versus 2024. Its 22 percent share refers to Q2, not the whole year.

Transport & Environment published its latest EU electric-car progress analysis on October 5, 2026. The group projects that sales of battery-electric models with starting prices below €25,000 will be seven times their 2024 level in 2026. This is a projection, not a completed full-year sales result.
T&E reports 1.64 million EU battery-electric vehicle sales between January and August, 45 percent above the same period in 2025. It says BEVs reached a 22 percent market share in the second quarter and outsold pure petrol cars across that quarter. The 22 percent figure should not be presented as the January-August or full-year share.
The group says almost 40 new electric models launched in the first half of 2026 and expects about 60 new models by year-end. It connects the wider choice of affordable models to EU car CO2 targets. That interpretation is the advocacy group’s analysis, not a finding independently established by this article.
The price threshold is the models’ starting price in euros. It is not an all-in ownership cost, a uniform price across countries, or a US-market offer. Consumers should check local taxes, incentives, equipment and availability rather than assume every model can be bought at the threshold.
This article uses T&E’s original release rather than the incoming draft, which blurred the period attached to the market-share figure. The full-year sales projection and policy judgments remain attributed to T&E.
