Okaloosa County reported that water and sewer service on Okaloosa Island remained shut off as of 7:45 a.m. on October 10, 2026, after Hurricane Isaias. The county emergency page also said power outages had left many drinking-water wells running on generators. These are dated local utility reports, not a count of regional outages.
The shutdown was planned before the storm. An October 9 county notice said crews would begin turning off multiple drinking-water mains and sewage lift stations at noon that day. The island had been under a mandatory evacuation order since October 8.
The county said the forecast storm surge could cause a complete loss of the water and sewer system if it remained on. Turning the systems off early was intended to help restore service after the storm. That describes a precautionary action; it does not establish that the entire network was destroyed.
The October 10 emergency update asked county water-and-sewer customers to conserve water because many wells were using generator power. Electricity restoration and water or sewer restoration are related but different tasks. A power return at one location does not by itself prove that every utility service is ready.
The county said it would give island residents updates through reverse calling and social media. The cited morning notice did not provide a verified time for water and sewer service to return. Readers should use the county emergency page for later notices rather than treating this snapshot as a live status feed.
The sources establish the local shutdown, its stated purpose and the generator-powered wells reported that morning. They do not establish a regional fatality total, a household bill change, a final damage assessment or a restoration guarantee. Those claims are not included in this brief.
