Nightpeak announces Bocanova 2 operation; 300 MW site milestone dates to September 17

The October 13 company release announces financial close and a 150 MW second phase. Commercial operation began September 17; the 300 MW figure covers both phases.

Nightpeak Energy announced financial close and commercial operation of its Bocanova 2 battery project on October 13, 2026. The company says the 150 MW, two-hour second phase reached commercial operation on September 17. The announcement date and the start of operations are different milestones, so the project should not be described as first switching on October 13.

The second phase brings the combined Bocanova site to 300 MW. Both phases are in Brazoria County, Texas, near the Houston metropolitan area. Bocanova 1, the first 150 MW phase, began commercial operation in August 2025. The 300 MW total is the site's combined power capacity, not the rating of the new phase alone.

Nightpeak says Bocanova 2 uses Tesla Megapack 2 XL battery systems. Its two-hour duration describes the storage project, while megawatts describe power. Battery storage can shift when electricity is supplied; this announcement is not evidence that the project itself generates renewable electricity or that all charging energy comes from renewable sources.

The project operates under a long-term offtake agreement with an investment-grade counterparty. The release does not name that counterparty or disclose the contract's price. MUFG Bank provided a tax-equity bridge loan and a construction-to-term loan, while U.S. Bank provided traditional tax equity. The release does not give a total project cost.

Nightpeak links the project to rising electricity demand from data centers and other large loads in ERCOT. That is the company's explanation of market demand, not a measured change in local residential electricity bills. The announcement establishes a company-reported operating storage milestone rather than a consumer savings estimate.

Limits: commercial-operation and financing details come from Nightpeak's own release. It does not provide an independent performance test, operating revenue, household bill impact or guaranteed grid-reliability outcome. The September 17 operating date remains explicit even though the financial-close announcement was published October 13.
