Madison and CORE plan 50 MW Colorado battery portfolio for September 2027

The three-site portfolio is planned at 50 MW and 200 MWh using Tesla Megapacks. The announcement targets commercial operations by September 2027 and does not quantify a guaranteed member bill reduction.

Madison Energy Infrastructure announced a 50 MW, 200 MWh battery-storage portfolio with CORE Electric Cooperative on October 26. The plan covers three sites in Colorado and uses Tesla Megapack technology. The companies expect commercial operations to begin by September 2027, not immediately.

The two capacity figures describe different things. Megawatts measure power, while megawatt-hours measure stored energy. Neither number establishes a guaranteed backup duration for every household in CORE's territory.

Madison says the projects are among the first supported by its $50 million agreement with Tesla. The release does not identify that agreement's entire value as the cost of the three Colorado sites. It would be misleading to call $50 million the disclosed project budget.

The companies say the portfolio will add capacity to CORE's distribution infrastructure and help manage growing demand and system peaks. Those are stated project aims, not measured operating results from a completed battery fleet.

CORE's energy-supply executive describes the projects as moving from planning into construction. The release discusses controlling power costs and maintaining reliable service but does not quantify a guaranteed household bill reduction or promise that every outage will be prevented.

CORE says it serves more than 375,000 residents across a 5,000-square-mile area in central Colorado. Residents are not the same measure as member accounts or installed home batteries. The announced portfolio is utility infrastructure, not an offer of a free battery for each home.
