The US government is attempting to overturn consent for Orsted's under-construction 704 MW Revolution Wind offshore project, the administration's latest move against the project and the wider offshore wind sector, reNEWS reported on October 14, 2026.
The Department of Justice filed a motion late last week claiming permission for the site off Rhode Island was incorrectly granted, raising fishing, scientific research and scenery grounds, according to the report. Officials want the project's approvals reconsidered.
The filing was made as part of a separate ongoing lawsuit by an environmental group seeking to stop the project.
The move follows stop-work orders issued against Revolution Wind and other projects last year, which were ultimately overturned by the courts, and a series of offshore wind lease buybacks in recent months.
Revolution Wind is one of the most advanced US offshore wind projects and is intended to deliver power to southern New England grids. The legal challenge adds uncertainty to a fully contracted regional clean-energy supply source; the outcome now rests with the court handling the underlying lawsuit.
