CIP reaches investment decision on Italian biomethane platform Via Verde
CIP’s October 7 release describes a 20-project development pipeline. Approximately 1 TWh of annual output is a full-operation forecast, not production already delivered.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners announced on October 7, 2026 that its Advanced Bioenergy Fund II reached a final investment decision on Via Verde, an Italian biomethane platform. CIP calls it the fund's first investment and its entry into Italy's biomethane market.
Via Verde includes a development pipeline of 20 projects across Italian regions including Lombardy, Abruzzo and Campania. CIP expects each plant to process approximately 60,000 to 100,000 tonnes of agricultural waste annually.
The developer projects roughly 1 TWh of annual biomethane output once all 20 projects are fully operational. It compares that amount with the yearly gas consumption of around 60,000 Italian households. Both figures are company forecasts, not a report of current delivered production.
Biomethane production converts agricultural waste and other feedstocks into renewable gas. CIP says domestic output can replace imported fossil gas and support Italy's energy-security and decarbonization goals. The announcement does not provide a quantified lifecycle-emissions assessment for these projects.
Final investment decision is a financing and development milestone. It does not establish that every plant is operating, and the release does not disclose an investment amount, individual plant commissioning dates or guaranteed household bill savings.
The useful distinction is between the committed platform investment and the output expected after construction and operation. Future plant-level milestones will determine how much of the planned pipeline becomes operating capacity.
