The Australian Renewable Energy Agency announced Round 3 of Solar Sunshot on October 15, 2026, with up to A$250 million allocated to solar manufacturing and deployment technologies. The funding envelope is a maximum available for the round, not a total already awarded to companies or an amount of generation capacity already operating.
ARENA's funding page says the round targets commercial-scale manufacturing of solar balance-of-plant and deployment technologies. Examples include racking, tracking, robotics, advanced automation and prefabrication. These are equipment and processes for building and operating solar facilities, rather than a promise to fund every kind of household solar installation.
Australian and international companies incorporated in Australia can seek support to establish, expand or demonstrate relevant manufacturing and technology capabilities in Australia. The funding page expects technologies to reach at least Technology Readiness Level 8 and Commercial Readiness Index 3 when manufacturing begins. An overseas company's interest alone does not establish eligibility or an award.
The round launches on October 15, but expressions of interest open on November 2, 2026. ARENA currently lists November 12, 2027 as the final expression-of-interest submission date and April 12, 2028 as the full-application deadline. Successful expression-of-interest applicants are invited to submit a full application, and ARENA reserves the right to change the timetable.
The agency describes an open, merit-based assessment and encourages prospective applicants to discuss their project before submitting. Its stated objectives include building local workforce capability, reducing reliance on global supply chains and lowering deployment costs. These are program objectives, not measured outcomes already delivered by this new funding round.
Solar Sunshot is an A$850 million program, according to ARENA's release. Round 3 builds on earlier manufacturing and deployment investments, but its announcement does not establish a particular household bill reduction or a guaranteed electricity price. Actual project awards, manufacturing output and power-system outcomes will need their own evidence as the round progresses.
