Apple says second China energy fund reaches $212 million; two wind projects are under construction

The October 10 Apple China release names 260 MW in Guangxi and 50 MW in Shandong. Committed capital, construction and electricity delivered are different measures.

Apple's China newsroom says October 10 that total committed investment in its second China Clean Energy Fund has reached $212 million, or RMB 1.4 billion. The company describes this as roughly doubling the fund since its $100 million initial anchor investment last year. Committed capital is not the same as money already spent on completed generation.

The release says initial investments support a 260-megawatt wind project in Guangxi and a 50-megawatt wind project in Shandong. Both are under construction. Their combined 310 megawatts describe power capacity, not annual electricity output or confirmation that either project is already operating.

Apple says Schroders Capital manages the second fund and that it aims to add 1.1 million megawatt-hours of annual wind and solar generation to China's grid. That is a fund-level target, not a measured annual output from the two projects now being built. The company says future investment could increase that target.

The company also reports that more than 95 percent of its direct manufacturing in China now uses renewable energy. Its worldwide supply-chain goal remains 100 percent renewable energy by the end of 2030. The current China figure and future global goal have different geographic and time scopes.

Beyond electricity procurement, Apple describes work with Shandong Innovation Precision to electrify aluminum melting. A large induction furnace has completed a demonstration, and the companies are working toward use in MacBook Air mass production. Other supplier sites are piloting heat pumps or electric boilers for industrial steam. These are reported development stages, not proof that all industrial heat is already decarbonized.

Limits: this brief uses Apple's Chinese-language original, translated into English, rather than unverified supplier-name translations in the intake draft. The release does not establish project completion dates, household electricity savings or an independently audited project emissions reduction. Investment commitments, construction milestones and company-reported renewable-energy progress should remain separate.
